  • Recruitment and Retention of Alaska Natives into Nursing (RRANN)

The RRANN program was created to recruit and mentor Alaska Native/American Indian students to pursue nursing degrees. RRANN provides tutoring services, peer group meetings, and student success facilitators for all AAS and BS students in the Nursing program.

Recruitment and Retention of Alaska Natives into Nursing (RRANN)

Welcome to RRANN! Since 1998, RRANN has recruited and mentored hundreds of Alaska Native and American Indian students in the pursuit of nursing degrees. The goal of RRANN is to help students graduate from the School of Nursing to provide excellent and culturally competent nursing care for Alaska's growing and diverse population. RRANN students have the desire to increase the comfort level in Alaska Native and American Indian people seeking healthcare. One of the unique ways that RRANN students can do that is by relating to indigenous ways of living, knowing, and healing.

RRANN currently assists nursing majors and pre-majors on University of Alaska campuses statewide by offering tutoring services*, scholarships, material lending, group meetings to connect with peers, and student success facilitators that offer career and personal advice to aid nursing and pre-nursing students in successfully completing the UA Nursing program.

To find out how you can become part of RRANN, email us at uaa.rrann@alaska.edu.

*Free tutoring services are available to all University of Alaska nursing students regardless of ethnicity or location.

"I hope to inspire the younger native generation to study in the health care field. It brings so much joy for me to take care of people, and it especially feels good to give back to the YK-Delta in some way. Thank you to RRANN for supporting my journey in the nursing program. Without the RRANN program, I wouldn't have met great tutors." 鈥擱RANN Graduate, Melody Hoffman
